Holy Hype!

by Beautiful Weekend

supported by
Mike Gintz
Mike Gintz thumbnail
Mike Gintz Super minimal yet harmonically-complex solo guitar with dual vocals. At first I had a hard time tracking the melodies within, but repeated listening reveals that it's all, despite its dense, modern-composery structure, somehow pretty catchy.

RIYL: Schoenberg Favorite track: Dynamite.

1.
From out of nothing a world you found / From within a dream you found / You draw on your skin the eternal line / You draw within the eternal line / One cannot look without offering a silent prayer / Throwing caution to the wind is not the same as taking risks
2.
Filter sound and make a lion's song / Fortune likes favorites / sent to us again again / Words travel lightly / faster than lighting / It all comes down to you / Sensational point of view / As you look back upon the fractures / Scattered bodies all in bloom / reflected through crystal rooms / I'm overcome / Almost too late for some
3.
Forest fires painted green/ Measured in times unseen / I'll be out there somehow somewhere / You ask how one could have known / I've traveled centuries / Acres of nothing / All is beautiful until further inspection
4.
It's the possibility of living a million lives in one life / Consider the places you've lived and the people who've affected you / Direct Distinctions between the faces you recognize and the moments you remember
5.
Morning 02:46
Morning surrenders you to the day / Let it grow and unfold / Do is the sound of our learning / Breathing in time without question / We'll think up some autumn games to play / This night suggests how far we are / Doesn't it ring a bell / this name we know so well
6.
Trace the burnt brick with my finger tips / Each time listening a little more deeply / My shoulder has turned in on itself again / If life were as simple and as pretty as it can be sometimes I'd give in and I'd let everything take under / House of dreams painted blue / Sliding glass door is closed / Marksman graves / Flashlight games / Sprinklers mist / Fountains rain
7.
Stretch the timepiece over the frame / Call to mind separate lives / Amplify silence which mimics the dawn / No more no less / Taking the time to make sense / All that's left is memory's face
8.
I Lie 01:37
I lie in a strange girls room / All the sounds she makes are far away / It is dark / People are staring out their windows / Their eyes are filled with the sounds
9.
Dynamite 02:25
This is not what I meant when I asked for your time / Won't put much significance / This mighty autumn afternoon / There are reports / The winds are insane / Building up building down / Flooding over ears / Riding our bikes until dawn through Brooklyn / How much can come / How much can go
10.
Time to Rise 03:05
This place isn't quite familiar / One day slides into another / Coined phrases turn different shades / Mind weighs heavy on their gaze / Time to Rise / Those pretty things turn tragic / Riding trusting our fellow riders

about

Beautiful Weekend's debut full-length, Holy Hype!, ranges widely across the experimental landscape while still maintaining a uniquely identifiable sound. Taking cues from early music, the contemporary independent scene, and modern classical composition, the songs wind sinewy melodic material around non-traditional harmonic anchors. The album was recorded by the band over the course of 2011, giving it a close and honest sound indicative of the long-time friendship of its members, Joel Roston (voice, guitar) and Noell Dorsey (voice, percussion).

about

Beautiful Weekend Boston, Massachusetts

A one-off collaboration between Joel Roston (Big Bear/Polaris Mine) and Noell Dorsey (Guillermo Sexo) in 2005 created a compositional frenzy that became Beautiful Weekend. Together, they combine excellent technical abilities from varied backgrounds to craft quiet, somber compositions resting somewhere on a spectrum between haunting and loving. ... more
